Sharing Session with RWS Group

FBSB — Karangmalang On Friday, April 19, 2024, from 9:00 to 11:00, the Cine Club Auditorium became the venue for a thought-provoking sharing session with representatives from the RWS Group. Aimed at exploring the remarkable growth of the translation industry amidst rapid technological advancements, the event brought together 8th semester students of the translation concentration.

The session started with a welcome speech from Dr. Ari Nurhayati, S.S., M.Hum., Head of the English Literature Study Program, who emphasized the importance of connecting theoretical knowledge acquired in academia with the practical realities of the industry. This gathering not only served as an avenue for students to acquire valuable insights but also marked the initiation of potential collaborations between English Literature study program and RWS Group, in line with the principles of 'Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka' (MBKM).

Throughout the session, the alumni of UNY’s English Literature program, Wildan Bilal Al-Qudsy, S. S., shared his professional journey as Lead Translator at RWS, while Febrianti Ika Dewi, S. S., provided insights into her career as Translation Line Manager at RWS. Discussions covered various aspects, including the details of life as a translator, emerging localization technologies and trends, and insights into the company's internship program. Additionally, RWS provided a glimpse into their day-to-day operations and the essential role of Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools. The session came to a close with an engaging quiz, testing participants' knowledge of Indonesian spelling according to the KBBI, with the winner receiving a souvenir from RWS. The event ended with a group photo, commemorating the enriching exchange of knowledge and experiences.
