On Saturday, May 31, 2025, the English Department Student Association (EDSA) hosted EDSART #12, an annual event celebrating creativity and imagination. With the theme “Enter the Wonderland of Wonders,” this edition aimed to transport audiences into a world of artistic expression, offering a temporary escape from the challenges of real life.

The event commenced at 1:00 PM with opening remarks from the EDSART #12 person-in-charge, the EDSA president, and the head of the English Language Education Department, Dr. Nunik Sugesti, S.Pd., M.Hum., who was delegated by the English Literature officer, Brigitta Sita Oentari, M.Hum.

Musical Performances that Set the Tone

The celebration kicked off with performances from Atap Langit, a band formed by Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program students, followed by Hipercoustique, a group from the French Language Study Program. Their lively singing set the stage for an afternoon filled with artistic immersion.

Exploring the Art of Filmmaking Through EMAC’s E-Talk

One of the main highlights was the screening of two short films, presented by members of EMAC (English Movie Appreciation Community). As experienced short-film creators, they delved into the technical aspects of filmmaking and shared behind-the-scenes insights on the challenges that arise during production. Following the screening, an interactive discussion engaged the audience in exploring the themes, narratives, and creative choices behind the films.

Relung’s Captivating Theatrical Performance

Taking the audience further into the realm of imagination, Relung, the English Department’s theatre club, delivered a remarkable performance. The play revolved around a middle-aged woman navigating workplace stress while accompanied by her imaginary friend; a presence that had stayed with her since childhood. The emotional climax unfolded as her internal pressure reached a breaking point, forcing her imaginary friend to lead her back into a world of escape. The touching storytelling left a lasting impression on the audience.

Edsacoustic: A Nostalgic and Energetic Finale

Closing the event on a high note, Edsacoustic, a band composed of English Language Education Department students, took the stage. The performance featured multiple batches of students, beginning with those from 2019 and building up to the latest 2024 cohort. Each batch performed a set of three to four songs, adding a nostalgic yet energetic atmosphere. As Edsacoustic 2024 delivered the final melodies, the audience remained captivated until the very last note. 

With an immersive blend of music, theatre, and film, the event successfully brought attendees into a wonderland of artistic expression, leaving them inspired and uplifted.
