The training was held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Vredeburg Fort Museum in Yogyakarta, with 20 participants from various departments: Finance, Technical, Security, Housekeeping, and Cleaning.

The focus of this training session is on museum staff, who are not typically targetted by similar training programs, which tend to prioritize English language training for tour guides. The implementation of the "English for Communication" training program, utilizing the ESP (English for Specific Purposes) approach, is deemed necessary to meet the needs of Vredeburg Fort Museum staff regarding the active use of English. Therefore, the training materials were designed and delivered in accordance with an analysis of the museum staff's needs, as they often serve as the frontline in providing service to museum visitors. Moreover, this training program aligns with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) and the 4th Asta Cita (Improving the Quality of Indonesia's Human Resources) as it provides an opportunity for staff at the Vredeburg Fort Museum in Yogyakarta to actively hone their English language skills.

During this training session, the PkM DLK team, led by Dr. Nandy Intan Kurnia, S.S., M.Hum., presented three main topics to the participants: "Greetings and Self-Introduction""Giving Directions," and "Handling Complaints." The session concluded with a presentation by the participants, who demonstrated their ability to actively use English.

In addition to receiving training materials and the opportunity to practice what they had previously learned, the participants also received an e-certificate as proof that they had successfully completed the "ESP-Based English for Communication Training for Staff of the Vredeburg Fort Museum in Yogyakarta."

The PkM DLK Team of the English Literature Program at UNY hopes that the participants will be able to apply the knowledge gained through this training, and that the excellent collaboration between the two institutions will continue in the future. (Nandy)
