Community Service Program: Developing English-Based Promotional Materials to Boost Balaiyanpus DPAD DIY Visitor Numbers

Pleret — Bantul In order to maximize resources for information dissemination, Balai Layanan Perpustakaan Dinas Perpustakaan dan Arsip Daerah (Balaiyanpus), also known as DPAD DIY Library Service Center, needed to expand its promotion of Grhatama Pustaka Library, Jogja Library Center, and Modern Learning House units. In order to address the problem, the English Literature Study Program of UNY organized a Community Service Program from March to August 2023 with the goal of translating pamphlets and creating social media contents for Balaiyanpus DPAD DIY. The project was led by Prof. Erna Andriyanti, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D, Dr. Titik Sudartinah, S.S., M.A., and Dr. Susana Widyastuti, S.S., M.A., Ph.D. Six students from the 2020 batch assisted the lecturers with the project as part of their apprentice program.

Before starting the project, the team conducted a needs analysis and field evaluation. Throughout the development stage, they discussed, selected, designed, and produced promotional materials. Adjustments to the materials were made based on feedback in line with Balaiyanpus DPAD DIY guidelines. Finally, the content was shared and promoted on the Balaiyanpus DPAD DIY website and social media channels. During the evaluation phase, public questionnaires were distributed, and evaluation meetings were held.

The availability of printed flyers with English translations together with video profiles, content, and audiovisual materials for the Balaiyanpus DPAD DIY website, Instagram account, and TikTok account is the primary result of this project. These materials can be utilized for a long time, and an assessment of them reveals that they are also suitable for social media and instructive, engaging, and easy to recall. The initiative is intended to boost public attendance at the Balaiyanpus DPAD DIY units, particularly from overseas visitors.
