Stage Production Course 2024: Showcasing English Literature Students' Theatrical Creativity

English literature students showed off through the final project of the Stage Production class by performing two plays entitled "This is A Test" and "Ten Years I've Crushed on You". The performance on December 20, 2024, was a showcase of skills in managing stage performances. All class members must be actively involved either as actors or backstage personnel. The coordinator of the English Literature Study Program, Dr. Ari Nurhayati, S.S., M.Hum., expressed her high appreciation to all those involved. The performance was the climax of the students' understanding of drama and theater. In addition, although it was part of the final exam of the class taught by Dr. Rachmat Nurcahyo, M.A., the performance was also a momentum to actualize students' skills in English in a meaningful way.

The drama entitled "Ten Years I've Crushed on You" presents a complex story of a young boy who loves someone for a long time but does not have the ability to convey it. This story is coupled with misunderstandings between actors so that the conflict becomes more diverse. The students of English Literature Program were able to bewitch the audience through their acting skills and dialogue. Audiences unconsciously dissolve in the story of 'chasing' love between young people.

The story became more comedic with the second Drama performance entitled “This is A Test”, a story of chaos in the exam room. This story straightforwardly and humorously presented the story of a student who was not prepared for the exam. He not only made the atmosphere chaotic but also funny. The student's psychology was presented theatrically so that the audience could laugh and really seemed to like it.

The two drama stories are packed with other stage performances in the form of dances, pantomimes, and songs. The stage of the Karawitan Lab FBSS UNY witnessed the success of English literature students who were able to show their actualization in drama and theater skills. The Stage Production course has provided materials, opportunities, and challenges for students to always be creative in a consistent path in English literature.
