Visiting Lecturer at Beijing Foreign Studies University

One of the implementations of MoU between Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), and Faculty of Asian Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) is a visiting scholar program. In November 2019, Tri Sugiarto, a lecturer from the English Literature Study program was given a chance by UNY to be one of the scholars teaching in BFSU. Together with the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs and Cooperation of FBS UNY, Dr. Maman Suryaman, he gave a series of lectures on 16-20 November in the Indonesian Department of BFSU.

Before starting his classes at the department, he delivered a presentation in the Forum Pemuda Tingkat Tinggi TIongkok-Indonesia 2019. He spoke about “People to People Cooperation between Indonesia and Tiongkok in Indonesian Language and Culture Program: A case study in UNY”. In his presentation, he addressed the importance of student and staff mobility programs among universities in Asia. Foreign language learning that has been running in UNY is proven to give a broader knowledge and intercultural competence to not only the participants but also the society in general. This event is an annual meeting supported by the Embassy of Republic Indonesia in RRT.

In the series of lecturer, Tri taught two subjects in collaboration with Gao Shiyuan, a lecturer from Indonesia Department in BFSU. They collaborated on teaching Indonesian Listening and Speaking, and Translation of English-Indonesian-Mandarin. Tri said that it was a very good opportunity for him to directly in a team teaching with a lecturer from BFSU. Shiyuan, also believed that this collaborative teaching must also become an annual program from the two universities. (DTG)
